Coach Smith Bio

Coach Meredy Smith brings a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted passion for track and field to the Desert Vista High School community. Originally hailing from Nebraska, Coach Smith's journey in the sport began at the University of Nebraska, where she excelled as a high jumper and earned the prestigious title of All-American. Her remarkable achievements during her collegiate career have left an enduring mark, as she still holds records on Nebraska's top 10 list.

Relocating to Phoenix in 1994, Coach Smith found her calling in education and has since been a dedicated educator, currently serving as the Gifted Mentor and 6th Grade Language Arts teacher at Akimel A-al Middle School. Embracing her role as a mentor and educator, she has made a lasting impact on countless students throughout her impressive career.

Coach Smith's commitment to track and field extends beyond the classroom, as she plays a pivotal role in coaching the high jump at Desert Vista. Her expertise and guidance have been instrumental in shaping the skills and character of aspiring athletes in the program.

Alongside her coaching endeavors, Coach Smith is deeply ingrained in the Ahwatukee community. Her family's ties to Desert Vista run deep, with her daughters graduating from the school and her husband, Mike, actively involved in DV track as well. Together, Mike and Meredy have been integral members of the Middle School and Desert Vista Athletics community since the early 90s, demonstrating an unwavering dedication to the success and growth of young athletes.

Coach Smith's impact extends far beyond the track, as she and her family are actively engaged in various community initiatives, exemplifying their commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others. With her wealth of experience, passion for coaching, and dedication to the Ahwatukee community, Coach Meredy Smith is a valued asset to the Desert Vista track and field program and the broader community it serves.
